Philomel Cottage, one of the short stories featured in The Listerdale Mystery, was, before the Second World War, the most successful short story written by Agatha Christie in terms of number of adaptations. It was adapted as a highly-successful West End stage play in 1936 by Frank Vosper called Love from a Stranger.
